Kimbra and Janelle Monae announce Australian tour 2014

Two of modern music’s most powerfully creative matriarchs are joining forces for The Golden Electric Tour, landing in Australia this May. They’ll be performing together as well as doing their own sets in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Auckland next month.

Monáe’s new album The Electric Lady continues the futuristic themes of her 2010 debut The ArchAndroid with a dazzling mix of funk, soul, jazz, and pop plus cameos from Prince, Erykah Badu, Solange, Miguel, and Esperanza Spalding.

Kimbra is set to release the followup to her 2011 album Vows later this year. The album is set to feature collaborations with Daniel Johns, Van Dyke Parks, Thundercat, Bilal, Mark Foster, John Legend, Matt Bellamy and members of The Mars Volta and Dillinger Escape Plan.

A serendipitous meeting between the two music contemporaries – Janelle Monáe and Kimbra – was the spark for a new friendship that has developed into a mutual desire to explore a joint creative endeavour, culminating in what will be one of the finest co-headline tours of 2014.

The Golden Electric Tour will reveal a stellar show of intertwined joint and individual performances – both artists will perform separate sets with their bands, as well as performing together.

Tickets for all shows go on sale next Thursday, April 17. My Live Nation members can access tickets first during the exclusive pre-sale beginning this Monday, April 14.

XXYYXX Australian Tour in Early 2013?!

Teenage Orlando-based electronic star XXYYXX will visit Australia’s capital cities to pump out his “quite simply mindblowing” music in some sweaty shows in late March.

XXYYXX – aka 17-year-old Marcel Everett – dropped his self-titled debut album last year to rave reviews, having his music featured in XLR8R, The Needle Drop, Earmilk, Indie Shuffle andBIRP, just to name a few. He’s also done remixes for artists such as Tinashe and Usher.

XXYYXX’s music has been described as “prolific output of eclectic, vivid electronica conjures a broad spectrum of emotions and visions; desolate landscapes, moments of intimate warmth, serene sadness and transcendent beauty”. It’s also been likened to James Blake and The Weeknd.

Everett himself has labelled his style of electronic music as experimental bass, and is believed to be working with local producer Ta-ku on some new beats.

Tickets for XXYYXX are now on sale now.
