Following a string of partnerships and acquisitions of dance music entities that includes the deal that will bring Tomorrowland to North America, news has broke that Ultra Music has formed an alliance with Sony Music Worldwide. The relationship has President of Ultra Music Patrick Moxey serving as Sony Music Worldwide’s President of Electronic Music. The strategic deal serves to cover A&R, distribution, international repertoire, and more — but jump below the break to find out what this all really means.

In short, the agreement has shaken up methods of music sales. Sony will now release Ultra’s music in North America while, internationally, both entities will share resources for the growth and benefit of Ultra globally. Patrick Moxey will now be working directly with Sony Music Entertainment CEO Doug Morris, and both head honchos had encouraging words of their partnership.

We are excited to expand our presence in Electronic Dance Music through this new global partnership with Ultra Music. Patrick Moxey is a fantastic music executive and a proven hitmaker in this important genre.” – Doug Morris

“This is an exciting deal for Ultra and I have a partner in Doug Morris and Sony Music who understands our business and shares our ethos. The collaboration will continue to strengthen Ultra as a global brand at the forefront of electronic music, opening up new opportunities for both labels and will ensure that our artists will continue to receive an enhanced and seamless service.” Patrick Moxey
