2Day FM replace Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O!

After radio power duo, Kyle and Jackie O, announced their departure from their popular breakfast segment on 2day FM to join its competitor station 106.5, there have been whispers of curiosity as to who would fill the big shoes that the former hit radio hosts had left behind. The time has finally come, as Austereo dropped the bomb that there will not only be 2, not even 3, but 4 new hosts that will take over the ‘revamped’ radio breakfast segment.

If the news of 4 hosts isnt enough to get you buzzing, it has also been confirmed that all 4 hosts are familiar faces you would have seen, heard, or read about. The ‘Fantastic Four’ will be Sophie Monk, Mel B, Jules Lund and Merrick Watts as revealed on the Today show on Channel 9. It’s a pretty bold move to not only have 4 hosts in one segment but each with their own different personalities (and egos), it’ll be interesting to see how the ‘revamped’ breakfast segment will turn out for 2Day FM. We can only wait till next year to find out. In the meantime, here’s a preview of the new segment that 2Day FM is hyping up…will it rise up to the standards and chart-hitting popularity of Kyle and Jackie O? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

‘She Can DJ’ goes to America!

The incredibly successful competition ‘She Can DJ,’ created by EMI Australia in 2011, has packed its bags once again. After its founding year in only Australia and new Zealand, the competition was adopted by EMI in france, Spaind & Italy.

Its first year in Australia yielded deals for Minx and Alison Wonderland. Last year’s competition, which doubled in entries, was won by s Leah Mencel. Aside from the record deal, Mencel got a weekly spot for 12 months on Southern Cross Austereo’s Party People which has 600,000 listeners nationally, a networking trip to Europe, and joined the bill of the Stereosonic 2012 dance festival alongside Tiesto and Calvin Harris. She also played Big Day Out, Future Music, Planet Cream and Parklife.

Now, after seeing the potential, ‘She Can DJ’ is moving to America, also! CBS radio & Astralwerks (EMI) are joining forces to launch the competition, set for July.

Competitions will be run by CBS’s Radio’s pop-dance stations across the country, in cities New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Boston, Detroit, Phoenix, San Diego, Charlotte and Las Vegas. The network’s head of programming Greg Strassell thinks its a wonderful oppportunity as it puts aspiring producers “front and center- with millions of music fans and the top decision makers in the business. The electronic dance music movement has been playing out to much success on radio stations all over the U.S., and CBS Radio looks forward to advancing the genre.”

Walter Murphy – A Fifth Of Beethoven (Flight Facilities Edit)

I’m sure you have relentlessly tried to describe house music to your parents as being the modern day equivalent to classical music. After disagreeing they tend to take the argument further, stating electronic artists and the artists today are nothing compared to the rock ‘classics’ of the seventies or eighties. Well this might help with future arguments like this. Flight Facilities, the famed Australian duo, known best for twisting seventies classics into modern day nu-disco, have re-visited Walter Murphy’s 1976 Saturday Night Fever classic “A Fifth of Beethoven,” one of the most influential tracks of the disco-era. Music connoisseurs will recognize passages from the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. If you find yourself wanting more funky renditions that connect generations of music lovers alike check out the rest of Flight Facilities’ “Triple j Mix Up Exclusives 1972-1982” Be sure to give it a listen and let me know what you think of it. I know it sounds a lot like it at first, but it introduces the new elements to dance within. Modernizing the older yet classic songs. I might be something interest for your you to hear, when I heard it my first thought was “OK, its new and fun-like….”
