BBC refusing to play ‘Ding Dong’ after landing in charts

The Wizard Of Oz’s track ‘Ding Dong The Witch is Dead,’ has coincidentally made charts after the death of UK ex prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

BBC, however, have refused to play the 51 second track as it is simply ‘distasteful.’

Radio 1’s Ben Cooper stated “I find the campaign to promote the song in response to the death of Baroness Thatcher as distasteful as anyone and I’ve thought long and hard about how to respond.”

In lighter news, the track still broke a sales record: only single under 60 seconds to reach the UK top ten.

Universal Music Group. 16.04

Jay-z joins the Universal team

Jay-z’s Record Label Roc Nation has officially become a part of the Universal Music Group.

While jay-z has previously been a part of UMG as president of Def Jam Records- ever since starting Roc Nation, he has been under Sony Music and Atlantic Records.

This is a huge coup for Universal as not only does Roc Nation’s roster hold some of pop-music’s best (Rihanna, Shakira, J Cole, Rita Ora, Calvin Harris, NO ID, Timbaland, Solange, M.I.A., Santigold, deadmau5, Wale Kylie Minogue,) but UMG now hold all 5 of hip-hop’s greatest, and wealthiest, under their umbrella (Jay-Z, Diddy, Dr Dre, Birdman and 50 Cent.)

Beyonce & Jay-z breaking the rules… in Cuba?

Beyonce & Jay-z celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary by traveling to Cuba. The couple we’re not-so-secretive about it, as they went to popular landmarks & casually walked down streets.

However, visiting Cuba for holdiday-only purposes is strictly banned, and there is question as to whether the couple obtained a ‘cultural exchange license.’

All information on legally traveling to Cuba is here

Will jay-z & Beyonce face consequence for their potential rule-breaking?

Tomorrowland to announce…comic book?

The Tomorrowland team expanded on their brand name significantly when they introduced Tomorrowworld to us this year. Now, they are taking it one step further by releasing a comic book, starring Like Mike & Dimitri Vegas.

It will be a four issue series and will follow the duo as they battle various forces, all to keep creativity alive in the world. It sounds as if it is a little (maybe more than a little) symbolic of today’s real issues surrounding music’s conformity and saturation, particularly in the dance realm.

The first instalment will become available on July 17th, right in time for Tomorrowland!

Whether you are going to the festival or not, make sure you catch a read of this!
