Australian-Born DJ Rachel flagged as ‘One To Watch’ by Pulse Radio

DJ Rachel Lyn

DJ Rachel  is an Australian-Born, London-based DJ regular on London’s Hoxton FM. Originally from the Southern Highlands NSW, Rachel moved to Sydney then Italy before settling in London to attend Point Blank Music College. She’s racked up various career options as a model, magazine stylist and fitness instructor before focusing on Techno. Her style of sound settles as deep, dark and sensual.

“I don’t really have any rules,” says Rachel about her Thursday afternoon radio show, called ‘You Call It Deep’. “It’s broadcasted live on the decks and I like to keep it about the music. Everything is about the music.”

Rachel describes her sound as “all types of house-techno”, but she admits that she’s still finding her musical identity. “I don’t just want to be a ‘play everything’ DJ, I want to start developing a niche. I’m happy with my sound right now; it’s deep techno, punchy bass – you can’t not dance to it!”
Things have been moving very fast for Rachel; she has been touring Europe – supporting, amongst others, Blond:ish at i.Boat. “They’re amazing DJs and producers. I played a crazy techno set afterwards. That was the first time for me that people were screaming during the set and having such a good time.”
Now, Rachel’s focus is touring. She’s embarking on a whistle-stop Australian tour in January, playing alongside Björn Wilke at the Spice Cellar on January 12.
“Right now, I’m preparing tracks and it’s important to me that the tracks I choose represent me. It’s dark, deep techno. It’s a sexy sound.”
“I try to come back [to Sydney] every year to see my family, but this year it was important to come back for the tour. I wasn’t expecting to have so many gigs; I’m just happy to be working here, it’s exciting.”
When Rachel returns to London, she has plans to start laying down some tracks of her own: “I know exactly what sound I want to make, and I have been writing lyrics so I just need to produce it. I don’t know when but I’m planning for later in 2013.”

James Blake

English song bird James Blake is a man of many wonders, you must be thinking hmmm song bird is a strange way to explain a male dub step artist- but song bird is a very apt description, this classically trained pianist is a man of ethereal talent. His enchanting mix of heavy piano chords and rib vibrating base and beats mixed with soulful and emotional voice is a wondrous combination !

Blake is primarily considered a dubstep producer and is frequently heralded as a leading figure in the “post dubstep” community, but he is also noted for his prominent soul influences. Blake was nominated the Critic’s Choice award by the 2011 BRIT Awards and the Sound of 2011 award by the BBC, and won second place in the latter. In addition, his self-titled debut LP, JamesBlake, was nominated for the 2011 Mercury Prize. Blake has also released material under the alias Harmonimix.

James Blake began his final year at Goldsmiths in September 2009 studying popular music while recording songs in his bedroom. In July 2009, he attended the Latymer School and released his debut single “Air and Lack Thereof” on Hemlock Audio. It was a firm favorite with Gilles Peterson from BBC Radio 1, and Blake was invited to do a special mix on Peterson’s worldwide show, which included an exclusive Mount Kimbie track.

Blake released his debut EP’ The Bells Sketch’ on 8 March 2010 on Hessle Audio, followed soon after by CMYK on 31 May 2010 and Klaierwerke on 10 October 2010, both on R&S Records. All three EPs were met with significant critical acclaim: BBC’s Nick Grimshaw chose CMYK as his Record of the Week, the title track of CMYK was ranked 24th on Frontier Psychiatrist’s top 40 songs of the year, and all three of Blake’s 2010 EPs were collectively ranked 8th on Pitchfork’s top 50 albums of 2010.

On 4 February 2011, Blake released his self-titled debut LP, James Blake, via ATLAS and A&M. Three singles were released for the album: ‘Limit to you Love,” “The Wilhelm Scream,” and “Lindisfarne”/”Unluck”. The album was very well-received by critics: on 29 September 2010, BBC’s Zane Lowe made “Limit To Your Love” his “Hottest Record in the World,” Pitchfork awarded the album Best New Music and ranked it the 12th best album of 2011 on their year-end list, and it was nominated for the 2011 Mercury Prize.

On 7 October 2011, Blake released his fourth EP, Enough Thunder, via ATLAS and A&M. Two singles were released for the EP: ‘Fall Creek Boys Choir,” a collaboration between Blake and Bon Iver, and “A case of You,” a cover of Joni Mitchell. On 12 December 2011, Blake released another EP through R&S ‘Love What Happened Here’. He has announced a number of small intimate tours for the coming year, Blake is an artist not to be missed your ears will thank you !
