Richie Hawtin is officially bringing his Plastikman moniker out for another go. Just last week, the producer announced the forthcoming release of EX, the first Plastikman album since 2003. Today, the album is out for digital release, as well as for full – and free – streaming.
“The music came out of me effortlessly as I was very inspired by the opportunity to play in this beautiful architectural space renowned more for art than music. The location also allowed me to step far away from the dancefloor, giving me a huge amount of freedom to EXplore any sonic ideas that I had. Art, music, architecture, painting, sculpture – these mediums are supposed to live together.”
Later this week, EX will see release on vinyl, CD and a limited-edition SubPac S1 that costs just a tad more. Also happening in the coming days is Hawtin’s debut of the new Plastikman show on June 12 at Sónar Barcelona, featuring a “specially constructed LED obelisk.”

One of the Sydney club scene’s greatest assets before she upped sticks for LA, Anna Lunoe is the sort of next level DJ that ends up having to spend half her sets telling other DJs what tune she just dropped. She has been killing it since making the full-time move to LA last year.
Sonny Moore heard Lunoe’s slice of tribal techno during her debut Coachella set in April, signed it to OWSLA and mixed and mastered it, and now we have Bass Drum Dealer, a four-minute ride through pounding tribal drums, trademark OWSLA bass and sirens and the menacing refrain, “I’m your high heel killer, I’m your bass drum dealer, and I always deliver.”
Anna says “I hope this makes you wanna strip down to your undies and do cartwheels. Xoxo.” You can listen below and download it for free at Nest HQ.

Garrix – the Dutch wunderkind behind 2013’s runaway hit Animals – was announced as one of BBC Radio 1’s new roster of resident DJs, alongside Tiesto, Bromance founder Brodinski and trance name Simon Patterson. On Thursday night, London time, Garrix stepped up for his first Radio 1 show and over one hour, the 17-year-old worked through a selection of the tracks he’s been enjoying. Radio 1 is a big influential station for dance music around the world.
“Radio 1 are big supporters of my track Animals and are taste makers in the world when it comes to dance music on the radio,” he said when the residency was first announced. “I’m excited to be a part of that.”
Unsurpisingly, Garrix’s label, Spinnin Records, features heavily on the tracklist, with handiwork from his label mates Firebeatz, Jay Hardway, Dubvision and Vicetone all making it in. But the first half of the proceedings wasn’t as main stage-ready as you might expect: before he picked up the pace and got stuck into his own material, Garrix also played less-frenetic tracks from Disclosure, UK singer Fox Stevenson and his Sander van Doorn and DVBBS collaboration Gold Skies. Animals, however, was absent the whole hour through.
