It seems that old dogs can be up to new tricks as the frontman of the American Disco and RnB band ‘Chic’ – Nile Rodgers – teams up with old favourite daft punk to release a new album even though there hasn’t been one in the previous 20 years.
Get lucky was the first hit which Rodger believes has been so successful because of it’s unique sound and ‘it works because it’s weird.’ Interestingly enough, nothing else on the charts is like the funky disco colab feat. Pharrel Williams which reasons why it peaked at #10 on the charts so far, with more than 350,000 downloads to date, plus another 710,000 in England. It is also the fastest-selling album in the UK so far this year.
Rodgers worked on Punks album Random Acess Memories describing Give Life Back To Music and Lose Yourself to Dance as an ‘exclusive’ sound. Its been revealed another daft and Rodgers colab is in the works including more unfinished Chic songs he wants to be released “Daft Punk wants to do at least one of them with me, so that should be very cool,” he said. “Because they respect the music. They understand.”
Here’s hoping that this is the collab couple of the year in the making, bringing more funk and no junk.
Avicii’strack, which is being collaborated with many people from around the world, will be released later today!! Officially around 5 hours from now, we would be able to download the full version of the complete song. For now, I don’t think he will include any vocals to the track as its all just instrumental, and it didn’t take long between the final cut and the release date to sort out a vocal session. No biggie, because the track example is dope enough!
Congratulations to all those enlisted and won the opportunity to work with (not literally) with the main man.
Other long-time DJs have seen their lights dim during the dance music explosion but Tiesto’s has only gotten brighter, making him inarguably one of the most major names in dance music. He’s been the subject of tabloid fodder, released numerous hits, made history, started his own radio show, and held down a residency at Privilege Ibiza for a decade but it seems he may be dialing down a bit. During an interview with Grant Smillie at the Electronic Music Conference in Australia Tiesto revealed, “Next year I’m not sure if I can do it, because it takes a lot out of me to play there from the end of May till the end of September.” He isn’t, however, writing off the white isle in its entirety saying that he may perform a “one-off show here and there.”
He also put the kibosh on speculation surrounding his collaboration with Deadmau5 saying, “Sometimes it just doesn’t happen. We made a track, it was okay, so we didn’t release it. But we Tweeted about it, so everyone was asking when it was coming. I don’t like to say that stuff anymore.” While we would love to hear a collaboration between the two, we’d rather them not release a supbar track just for publicity.
Other topics of discussion in the lengthy interview include the modernization of dance music, his hands on approach to hiring, how producers can get their tunes heard, and much more. Check it out above.
