Kimbra and Janelle Monae announce Australian tour 2014

Two of modern music’s most powerfully creative matriarchs are joining forces for The Golden Electric Tour, landing in Australia this May. They’ll be performing together as well as doing their own sets in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Auckland next month.

Monáe’s new album The Electric Lady continues the futuristic themes of her 2010 debut The ArchAndroid with a dazzling mix of funk, soul, jazz, and pop plus cameos from Prince, Erykah Badu, Solange, Miguel, and Esperanza Spalding.

Kimbra is set to release the followup to her 2011 album Vows later this year. The album is set to feature collaborations with Daniel Johns, Van Dyke Parks, Thundercat, Bilal, Mark Foster, John Legend, Matt Bellamy and members of The Mars Volta and Dillinger Escape Plan.

A serendipitous meeting between the two music contemporaries – Janelle Monáe and Kimbra – was the spark for a new friendship that has developed into a mutual desire to explore a joint creative endeavour, culminating in what will be one of the finest co-headline tours of 2014.

The Golden Electric Tour will reveal a stellar show of intertwined joint and individual performances – both artists will perform separate sets with their bands, as well as performing together.

Jay Z has the answers to our questions

Have you ever lied in bed just wondering what Jay Z’s 99 problems were? What his favourite Britney Spears song was? His favourite cereal? Well have no fear, because yesterday Jay Z caused twitter frenzy as his answered all the unanswered questions his fans had proposed on his account.

He began on July 8th obviously disregarding his self imposed twitter hiatus, answering questions from fans who used the hashtag #MCHG that day.

Jay-Z promised to resume tweeting no sooner than 2014, so his rapid-fire tweets came as a surprise to everyone, causing #MCHG to become a worldwide trending topic on Twitter. “Jay-Z” and “Magna Carta Holy Grail” have been mentioned nearly half a million times on Twitter since the album premiered, which is why this rukas could be seen as an innovative advertising ploy for his newest album, “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” which was released on July 9th.

By the way his favourite Britney song is toxic…

Flo Rida Bails on Aussie Gigs and Legal Fees

Oh the hardships of being a successful hip-hop artist….at least for Flo Rida.

According to FasterLouder, the US rapper refuses to pay a whopping $400,000 bill for failing to perform at the ‘Fat As Butter’ Music Festival back in 2011 after being paid in advance for his appearance.

Flo Rida’s lawyer, Nick Furlan, defends that the rapper stating, “There was no evidence that [Flo Rida] was in NSW on April 13”. Despite this claim, Flo Rida has been identified to be in Australia the day after to perform at the Supafest festival and the Logie Awards Ceremony on the following day.

The ‘Fat As Butter’ promoters counteract Furlan’s defense by claiming that the rapper bailed the event due to a “hissy fit” and used all their efforts to try and get him to perform for the crowd. The promoters were so disappointed with Flo Rida’s ‘Houdini’ act that they even posted on Facebook, “Since he’s been on his Australian tour, he’s been an absolute tonk”.

Apparently this isn’t the first time Flo Rida has pulled the ‘Diva’ card.

Flo Rida has also been reported of being booked in advance to perform at Mounties in Mt Pritchard on the NSW coast following the ‘Fat As Butter’ show but, again, failed to make an appearance. “Every time we got our hopes up that he was in transit to the venue, we would find out that he had not in fact left his hotel room,” the venue posted on Facebook. “The most difficult part was then turning him away from the Club when he finally arrived nearly 3 hours after he was due on stage. We did not believe he was in a suitable condition to perform.”

And we thought pop-stars were the big divas! Seems like hip-hop artists are also jumping on the ‘prima donna’ bandwagon nowadays.

Jay-z raps about Cuba-intrusion incident

Jay-z and Beyonce have found themselves in trouble after taking an illegal holiday to Cuba the other week. Now, just to heat things up even more, Jay-z has teamed up with Timbaland to create a rap revolving around the incident.

Some lyrics include ‘turned Havana into Atlanta/ Boy from the hood, I got White house clearance/ Obama said, ‘Chill, you’re going to get me impeached’/ You don’t need this shit anyway, chill with me on the beach.’

This has resulted in Obama’s assistant trying to explain the ‘true’ meaning of the rap song lyrics to Cuban Officials.

Stay tuned to see how it resolves.. or unfolds further.
