The Grammys Announce 2013 Nominees

Dance music’s presence in last year’s Grammy Awards was undeniable, marking the first time a DJ had been nominated for the ‘Best New Artist‘ category. The DJs and producers who were big in our world had finally crossed over into mainstream relevance by way of Skrillex’s five nominations and three wins. This year, Skrillex received three nominations, each in the categories he won last year. Diplo’s nomination for ‘Best Producer‘ is also an accolade that is long overdue. Only three highly-recognizable dance music artists were nominated in 2012, but this time around there’s a much healthier selection.

Check below to find out who made the cut and in which categories.

Before you get up in arms about the fact that “Levels,” Fire & Ice, and Bangarang were released in 2011, it is important to note that the Grammys only consider releases from October 1st of 2011 to September 30th of 2012 — hence the reason Zedd’s Clarityhas not made the cut, having been released on October 2nd. While we won’t get into the politics of who we think should or should not be on the list of nominees (save that for later), we will say that you can expect a full rundown on who the hell Al Walser is and why his name is on this list.

Voting opens for 28th International Dance Music Awards

The same week that the Grammys fumbled its dance music nominations, voting has opened for its far more credible counterpart, Winter Music Conference’s International Dance Music Awards. The IDMAs annually showcase each of the moving parts that make up the sprawling global automaton we call dance music, from producers and promoters to clubs and software developers. Containing nearly 60 separate categories and a consistent emphasis on innovation, the IDMAs are one of the few dance music awards that command respect from both the industry and the public. So let us know if you will be voting at all, and if you are planning to, who do you will win in the category you favour!! Who do you want to see walk away with a good amount of winnings?

You can check out last year’s results here, then head to 2012′s ballot to cast your vote before the polls close December 21st.

Psy seemed to be very happy for the massive hit of “Gangnam Style” and its impact on the music scene, by kissing his winning award for the cameras! He has also announced whilst in France that his debut album will be set around a March 2013 release worldwide. Gaining the success of “Gangnam Style” and the manager of Scooter Braun, who is also the manager of another sensational hit star Justin Bieber, we are bound to see Psy again in the near future.   See the event at the MTV EMA’s website here for any other information about the Award show.
