The incredibly successful competition ‘She Can DJ,’ created by EMI Australia in 2011, has packed its bags once again. After its founding year in only Australia and new Zealand, the competition was adopted by EMI in france, Spaind & Italy.
Its first year in Australia yielded deals for Minx and Alison Wonderland. Last year’s competition, which doubled in entries, was won by s Leah Mencel. Aside from the record deal, Mencel got a weekly spot for 12 months on Southern Cross Austereo’s Party People which has 600,000 listeners nationally, a networking trip to Europe, and joined the bill of the Stereosonic 2012 dance festival alongside Tiesto and Calvin Harris. She also played Big Day Out, Future Music, Planet Cream and Parklife.
Now, after seeing the potential, ‘She Can DJ’ is moving to America, also! CBS radio & Astralwerks (EMI) are joining forces to launch the competition, set for July.
Competitions will be run by CBS’s Radio’s pop-dance stations across the country, in cities New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Boston, Detroit, Phoenix, San Diego, Charlotte and Las Vegas. The network’s head of programming Greg Strassell thinks its a wonderful oppportunity as it puts aspiring producers “front and center- with millions of music fans and the top decision makers in the business. The electronic dance music movement has been playing out to much success on radio stations all over the U.S., and CBS Radio looks forward to advancing the genre.”
