Nicolas Winding Refn’s ‘Only God Forgives’ is a production crime thriller film, that has polarized audiences with its violence and nightmarish themes. Whilst most reviews have been tentative to praise the film, Robbie Collin of The Daily Telegraph did praised Refn for following up his commercially successful film Drive with “…this abstruse, neon-dunked nightmare that spits in the face of coherence and flicks at the earlobes of good taste”. Refn described his process behind creating the film saying “from the beginning, (he) had the idea of a thriller produced as a western, all in the far east, and with a modern cowboy hero.”
If Ryan Gosling isn’t enough to get you to the cinemas, watch the trailer below! The retro synth sequencer that drops half way through the trailer creates a landscape of ominous intensity you can only expect from the maker of ‘Drive’. This film looks like becoming another cult hit!
