DUB MISSION is on fire this month! The line-up features an array of immaculate talent such as: Jamaica’s legendary mix master, The Scientist with General Jah Mikey on the mic plus Subatomic Sound System and our very own funkadelic queen of chill vibes: DJ Sep.
The 22nd of June is going to be a massive night for every Dub head and reggae fan out there. This Dub Champions festival is a chance for the West coast to display their talent and bring some fresh new beats to the psychedelic scene. The Dub champions’ festival for the west coast was inspired by one created four years ago in New York.
The festival happens in New York City, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Vienna, Amsterdam and now debuts in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The festival features performances and educational workshops to exhibit how the music is created and how it has evolved from its roots in ’70s Jamaica to become a cornerstone of electronic bass music. Dub is a major inspiration to artists in many genres including rap, rock, punk and dance music.
DJ Sep is the main resident DJ at Dub Mission. She has worked with an array of the best of the best in this music scene, including opening for Sly & Robbie, The Wailers, Culture, Big Youth, Les Nubians, Rachid Taha, Kinky, and The Cinematic Orchestra among many others. Her latest EP, Biggering Riddim, features some of her own original work and also that of her mates: Dr. Israel and Mista Chatman, who also take a spin on the decks. Other music she’s worked on includes the likes of the BASSment mix, and Reggae Got Dhol featuring remixes of classic tunes by Gregory Isaacs and Lady G.
You know where to find the usual suspects!
