James Blake Reveals Dark New Track

James Blake let slip last month that his new album was halfway done and this month he has dropped a new track on BBC One.

Appearing on Jamie xx, his good friends, show last Wednesday night he debuted the track, without so much as a word to whether it would appear on the yet to be released album. The track is much darker then Blake’s previous releases with a sample heavy cut intrumental piece.

Collaborations, such as David Bowie and Disclosure who appeared on the Mercury Prize winning Overgrown last year, are all speculation at the present however Blake has been working on a follow up with Fall Creek Boys Choir collaborator Justin Vernon and working with Kanye West on a intermittent basis. He has also given word to a third collaborator who has been kept in the dark.

James Blake

English song bird James Blake is a man of many wonders, you must be thinking hmmm song bird is a strange way to explain a male dub step artist- but song bird is a very apt description, this classically trained pianist is a man of ethereal talent. His enchanting mix of heavy piano chords and rib vibrating base and beats mixed with soulful and emotional voice is a wondrous combination !

Blake is primarily considered a dubstep producer and is frequently heralded as a leading figure in the “post dubstep” community, but he is also noted for his prominent soul influences. Blake was nominated the Critic’s Choice award by the 2011 BRIT Awards and the Sound of 2011 award by the BBC, and won second place in the latter. In addition, his self-titled debut LP, JamesBlake, was nominated for the 2011 Mercury Prize. Blake has also released material under the alias Harmonimix.

James Blake began his final year at Goldsmiths in September 2009 studying popular music while recording songs in his bedroom. In July 2009, he attended the Latymer School and released his debut single “Air and Lack Thereof” on Hemlock Audio. It was a firm favorite with Gilles Peterson from BBC Radio 1, and Blake was invited to do a special mix on Peterson’s worldwide show, which included an exclusive Mount Kimbie track.

All three EPs were met with significant critical acclaim: BBC’s Nick Grimshaw chose CMYK as his Record of the Week, the title track of CMYK was ranked 24th on Frontier Psychiatrist’s top 40 songs of the year, and all three of Blake’s 2010 EPs were collectively ranked 8th on Pitchfork’s top 50 albums of 2010.
