NYC’s dance music fans will be sad to hear the Electric Zoo Festival has been cut short this year after the death of two attendees.
The last day of the three day dance festival has been cancelled following the two drug-related deaths. The official website for E-Zoo was taken down, replaced with a message sending their condolences to the families. Sunday’s lineup included Armin Van Buuren, Sebastian Ingrosso, Laidback Luke and Steve Aoki. The popular festival attracted 100,000 people in its 2012 edition.
With the weather slowly but surely warming up, it’s time to start making the most important decision of the year – which summer festivals to spend your hard-earned cash on. And for all you indecisive music lovers, the choice just got that much harder with the addition of long running North American event, Warped Tour. The licensed all ages travelling festival is returning to Australia after an eleven year hiatus, and will feature big name local and international acts including the Offspring, Parkway Drive and Simple Plan.
Starting out in 1995 as a punk and hardcore showcase in the States, Warped has evolved into a veritable spectacle, encompassing all things from extreme sports displays to environmental initiatives, markets and community development schemes. The Australian equivalent roars into town this November/December, but the question remains, will Warped succeed going head to head with the AJ Maddah led Soundwave festival, which year after year delivers a stellar line up of punk-influenced all stars. The choice is yours, but with hype like this, it’s safe to say we’ll be snapping up tickets to both!
Band leader and drummer Questlove, released the news on twitter stating that they will be in Australia on the 26th of Dec and are planning on staying for a week in 2013. The Roots were regulars to Australia, starting out at the Vivid Festival in 2003 then coming back in 07 for a Blues and Roots festival. Australian fans were pretty distraught after they canceled on the Good Vibrations festival in 09 and announced they were officially retiring from touring, but hopefully a week in Australia, during the hype of festival season will make up for lost time.
